Nature-based approach to architecture and urbanism
Presented is an approach to architecture and urban design based on the science of ecology to integrate built systems with the ecosystems of the location, not merely to maintain the existing environmental and ecological conditions but also to achieve positive ecological benefits to the ecosystems and to create designed systems that regenerate impairments to the environment. This is crucial for the future viability of all life on planet. Discussed is the process of designing by biomimicry as the replicating, emulating, augmenting and supplementing the properties of the ecosystem in the built-systems to ensure that they engage seamlessly with nature.
