Handmade Heritage: The Art of Indian Papermaking

By The Bombay Paperie

This workshop opens up the centuries-old craft of hand-lifted paper making, where waste paper and cotton rags are transformed into sheets of delicate, resilient fibre. Participants will create their own bespoke A5 papers, each sheet drawn by hand as part of a process first perfected in the 17th century.

Bombay Paperie’s practice sits at the intersection of preservation and renewal. Working with the last two remaining master papermakers, they have trained a younger generation to keep the vats in use, sustaining one of the last surviving traditions of rag-based handmade paper.
