Craft. Climate. Culture. Framing Innovation with the Godrej Design Lab Fellows

By The Vernacular Modern, The Tectonic Assemblies Studio and Ajaibghar

Blending art, code, and cultural inquiry, Ajaibghar is a creative technology studio led by Computational Mama and Nanditi. As Godrej Design Lab Fellows 2025, they explore how design with code can be rooted in local contexts. Their project, code.drift, transforms live-coded visuals and music into site-responsive performances inspired by the rhythms of Indian cities, creating generative, participatory artworks.

Blending craft, technology, and sustainability, the Tectonic Assemblies Studio at CEPT University reimagines how we design and build for a changing world. Tutors Maulik Oza, Neel Jain, Krunal Patel, and Karan Verma guide students through passive cooling, zero-waste construction, and material reuse, shaping modular systems that are innovative and ecologically conscious.

From heritage to innovation, The Vernacular Modern revives age-old craft practices. Co-founders Deeptashree Saha and Abhirup Dutta are reinterpreting the Pakha, a single-blade fan from the pre-electricity era, through artisanal craft and mechanized movement, preserving tradition while giving grassroots artisans a platform to express themselves through design.

These three 2025 Godrej Design Lab Fellows, Ajaibghar, Tectonic Assemblies Studio, and The Vernacular Modern will share their individual practices and approaches in an interactive session exploring how design, technology, and context can intersect to create purpose-driven, equitable innovation. Presented in collaboration with Conscious Collective 2025, the conversation is framed by this year’s theme: Reclaiming Cool.
