By Godrej Design Lab X Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW)
In this report, Godrej Design Lab and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) explore key decarbonisation solutions for the built environment and their scalability potential. In an effort to bridge the gap between available solutions and their adoption, successful examples from around the world are showcased for each solution. It also highlights the stakeholder convergence required for various transformations: urban design interventions for climate resilience, alternative material supply chains, smart and renewable energy integration in buildings, and activation of sustainable choices by consumers. To bring the findings of the report to life, a gamification installation ‘City Cool: A Sustainability Challenge’ has been created for users to experience the solutions that address the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. Through user-inputs driving the milestones and strategies, the game educates the users about the role of greenery, use of shades and facades and installation of cool surfaces in helping deal with rising urban heat.
